Comparing Company Characteristics and Injury Rates: Differentiators of Safety Performance Webinar - Tuesday, November 9th, 2021 | 2:00 - 3:00 PM ET


EPRI recently concluded a first-of-its-kind quantitative study comparing safety culture, leading indicators performance, and business factors to injury rates.  Nine significant safety management actions emerged which provide the electric sector with guidance on priority opportunities to reduce serious injuries and fatalities (SIFs).  In this presentation, you will learn about those nine areas, as well as safety culture assessment questions and leading indicators that attendees can use in their safety management initiatives.

Presenting this webinar will be Eric Bauman, Electric Power Research Institute, Principal Technical Leader and Program Manager-Occupational Health and Safety and, Matthew Hallowell, Executive Director, Safety Function LLC, and Presidential Teaching Scholar and Endowed Professor at the University of Colorado-Boulder.

Eric H. Bauman is Principal Technical Leader and Program Manager - Occupational Health and Safety, at the Electric Power Research Institute, a position he has held since February 2017.  Eric has broad experience in environmental, health and safety management and policy, risk communications, regulatory affairs, corporate strategic planning, and technology innovation.  Much of his career has been spent in the electric sector and government service, holding a variety of roles in two utilities, state government, research, and Manager of Occupational Health and Safety at the Edison Electric Institute.  Eric was also a guest scientist at the Research Center Juelich, near Aachen, Germany.  His current passion is providing evidence-based tools and knowledge for EPRI members to reduce serious injuries and fatalities, thereby extending workers’ careers and quality of life through wellness initiatives.  Eric is a charter member of the Society for Risk Analysis and a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals.  He lives and works in Walnut Creek, California.

Dr. Matthew Hallowell is a President’s Teaching Scholar and Endowed Professor of Construction Engineering at the University of Colorado at Boulder. He is also the Executive Director of the Construction Safety Research Alliance. He earned a BS and MS in Civil Engineering and a PhD with a focus on Construction Engineering and Occupational Safety and Health. Before his academic career, he worked in construction as a laborer, project engineer, and quality inspector.
