Index #: NECA413-19
This ANSI accredited standard describes the procedures for installing and maintaining AC Level 1, AC Level 2 and fast charging DC (initially known in the industry as AC Level 3 and currently known in the industry as DC Level 2) Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE).
NECA 413 provides the essentials of electrical vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) installation that is consistent with safe, sound and successful growth of the EV market. The standard describes quality and performance aspects of installing electric vehicle charging stations and necessary steps that must be performed to ensure system capacity of electrical power sources and service equipment and safe installation of EVSE branch circuits and feeders. It includes a review of the various types of EVSE and applicable rules in the NEC that must be applied to EVSE installations. Applicable installation guidelines and checklists are integrated into this standard to assist contractors, installers and inspectors. Compliance with regulatory agencies is also covered specifically as it relates to required work permits, inspections, and approval of EVSE or vehicle charging equipment installations.
This revision continues to address performing an effective site (electrical system) assessment prior to EVSE installation and provide installation requirements and alternatives. It will also assist users in applying appropriate NEC rules, installation, quality and workmanship standards, and installation requirements contained in product safety standards.
